Those
who have been enrolled as members
of the Carmelite Scapular Confraternity
by legitimately delegated priests,
and who carry on their person the
Holy Scapular in the prescribed
manner, can gain an Indulgence on
the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
July 16, as often as they
shall (Toties Quoties)
have visited a Carmelite church
or, if these are lacking, a church
where the Confraternity exists,
or, if this is not possible, the
local parish church.
The
usual conditions for gaining the
Plenary Indulgences apply:
(a) An interior disposition of complete
detachment from sin, even venial
sin;
(b) Sacramental Confession (within
the week before or after the indulgenced
day);
(c) Holy Communion (either the day
before, the feast day, or within
the week after);
(d) Prayers for the Pope's Intentions
(at least one Our Father, Hail Mary
and Glory be)
with each
repeated visit.
Only
one Plenary Indulgence per day may
be acquired for oneself, but many
may be acquired for the Poor Souls.
Scapular
Instructions see pg 5 #3
A similar indulgence may be obtained
on All Souls Day, Nov. 2nd, as
often as one shall
visit a cemetary or church and fulfill
the usual conditions including the
prayers for the Pope's intentions
with each visit.
The
intentions of the Pope are not those
of the present pope personally,
but of four timeless intentions.
The Raccolta, a
collection of prayers and indulgences
that used to be published by the
Sacred Congregation of Indulgences
explains this:
23.
The Pope’s intention always
includes the following objects:
i. The
progress of the Faith and triumph
of the Church.
ii. Peace and
union among Christian Princes
and Rulers.
iii. The conversion
of sinners.
iv. The uprooting
of heresy.
Thus, even if the present Pope's
monthly prayer intentions seem like
ones we should not be praying for,
we can still receive plenary indulgences
because of the timeless intentions.
