Third Order Carmelites desire a closer union with God within their secular life. They are clothed in the scapular; the priceless treasure of Mary’s chosen Order. The scapular shows their special devotion to the Queen of Carmel and assures them of her special protection. Tertiaries turn to Our Lady constantly to teach and guide them in the way of total abandonment to God’s Holy Will. It is a hidden life of prayer and sacrifice, offering all the duties of the day and keeping the Carmelite Rule, for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. This simple life, if faithfully lived, is most pleasing to God and brings great peace and joy to the soul.
